I have a dream. A very small, simple dream, really. I dream that one day the laundry will be all clean AND put away. Clothes, linens, everything washed, dried and in its proper place. Silly, huh? But I’m not sure at any time in my mommying life I’ve ever achieved this goal. I’m great at getting things washed (and Sugarplum’s current potty training situation helps me stay on top of it!) but it’s the getting things put away that eludes me.
Generally a clean/dry load will stay in the dryer until the next load needs to go in. Then the clean clothes are put in the designated laundry basket (one for each member of the family and one for linens). Hubby puts his own clothes away (though not real regularly) and I do most of the rest. I’m pretty good about getting the girls’ clothes put away because I get tired of digging through the baskets each night looking for pajamas. It’s those darn linens and my clothes that sit around for weeks (and admittedly, sometimes even months) waiting for me to get enough energy/free time/desire to put them away. I’ve even tried putting the clothes in a place where they’ll have to be put away the same day, like on my bed, but I just move them when I’m tired.
In college I used to hang my clothes up as I took them out of the dryer but I don’t have a proper set up for that currently (nor do I generally have the time at the moment they come out of the dryer). When Honeybun was a baby I would plop down with her nice, warm fresh out of the dryer clothes and fold them on the living room floor. When Sugarplum was a baby I began piling everything in laundry baskets and folding it when I got around to it. Who knows if the clothes will even get washed when baby #3 comes along!
Sigh. Guess it’s just a reality I’ll have to live with for now—unless someone wants to come do it for me!
