There are parts of being a mommy of three that terrify me and parts that I know will be no big deal. I know I will have more than enough love to go around, though maybe not always enough time or patience. I know that I will be able to provide each of my children with the stimulation they need to grow and be happy, though maybe not always at the same time. Overall, I have to say I’m more excited about having another baby in our family than I am scared. There are only a few aspects that really worry me.
Most worrisome for me: going out. How does that work?
Right now I have two hands, one for Honeybun and one for Sugarplum. How does the baby fit into that? I realize at first I’ll probably be wearing the baby a lot but depending on which carrier I use, I still like to have one hand on the baby. And if I’m trying to nurse I almost always have to have a hand on the baby to keep him/her at the proper level. Luckily Honeybun is a good listener and follower of safety rules so will hold Sugarplum’s hand if she needs to but Sugarplum is not always as agreeable to this arrangement.
Also, how do you load a car with three kids? I remember having this same question when Sugarplum was new: who do I put in first and what do I do with the other one in the meantime? Right now Honeybun can open the car door, climb in and get her car seat buckle ready by herself. Sugarplum can do the same except for getting the door open and sometimes she slips climbing up. Usually I check safety for Honeybun (make sure there’s not a car going to come in/out of the space next to her) then instruct her to get in while I assist Sugarplum. Well, Honeybun is in the middle and Sugarplum and baby will be on the sides. I can’t put baby in until Honeybun is in (unless I make her crawl under the baby seat!) and Sugarplum is not big enough to be trusted on the other side of the car by herself. So, do Sugarplum and I wait for Honeybun to get in, put the baby in then go help Sugarplum get in or do I take the baby with me to help Sugarplum while Honeybun does herself and then put the baby in?
The logistics of it all is killing me! Luckily we have the walking thing down. I have my fantastic double buggy which has the 2nd seat that can lie flat for the baby or I can use the car seat in the back and Honeybun always walks now. Maybe we’ll just stop using the car altogether….
