I know I just had a baby, but really, my buggy isn’t that big! Besides, it carries two kids so it’s going to be bigger than most. I just don’t understand what retailers are thinking these days!
Hubby, the family and I headed off to do some shopping yesterday morning after my breastfeeding support group got cancelled and we were gifted with an entirely free morning. I desperately need clothes with booby access that aren’t 5 years old and falling apart. There is an “outlet” mall about a half hour away with a bazillion stores so it’s a great place for one-stop shopping.
Things started off easy enough, we perused a few stores, got a few items and I managed to squeeze my double buggy through most slots I wanted to get through (though I did ruffle a few racks). Then it all went downhill when I went into Gap. The first 3 paths I tried to take were too small for my buggy! I got so irritated by the whole thing I left the store completely. I moseyed across the mall to Oakley where hubby was shopping and AGAIN, could not get through the store.
The whole thing made me so frustrated I just want to go home and not even bother trying to shop anymore. To quote my dear dad: I am just BAFFLED by why stores make their aisles so narrow. I’m so glad now I don’t have a side by side double buggy because I would not even be able to navigate my neighborhood Target’s baby section with anything wider than what I have (a Britax B-Ready, by the way…see “Gettin’ Around” for more on my buggy collection).
My buggy is approximately as wide as a wheel chair (I’ve compared at the airport) so if I can’t get my buggy around stores, how do handicapped people do it? At least I can leave my buggy at the end of a rack while I look but someone in a wheelchair can’t just get up to wander to what they want to see!
So disappointed, don’t women spend the most money? And aren’t a fair number of women also moms? Why would stores be alienating their top customers?
