Happy Halloween!
This Halloween is a very special one for our family. Not only is it our first with baby Doodle, but it will be the girls’ first time Trick-or-Treating. We intended to take them last year but hubby had to be out of town for a work conference and we didn’t want him to the miss the first time. Instead the girls helped me hand out candy to children that came to our house. They had never experienced trick-or-treating before since it is not as popular in Dublin and there weren’t many children in our old neighborhood (not that Honeybun would have remembered anyways). They loved helping me answer the door, hand out candy and say “Happy Halloween!” until a teen in a Scream mask came and Sugarplum retreated screaming to the kitchen every time the doorbell rang (the boy was very nice and took it off as soon as he realized she was scared but it was too late.)
Trick-or-treating this year is also going to be a new experience for me. Not only is it my first time going as mommy, but it will be my first time going in warm weather. Growing up in Colorado, I remember it always being so cold on Halloween (and I’m convinced in snowed EVERY year!). We used to have to wear long underwear, turtle necks and gloves under our costumes and sometimes hats, boots and snow gear over our costumes. I remember being so mad every year about my costume getting “ruined” by the extra gear (note my “chunky” princess look–I was not, in fact, a chunky pre-teen).
This year I’m actually concerned about the kids being too hot! Doodle and Honeybun both have long sleeves and while our nights cool down considerably, it’s not until much later in the night that it gets “chilly”. I’m sure they’ll be fine, it’s just not a problem I’m not used to!
