While my girls have been to over 25 different countries, other than a slew of airports, they’ve only been to a handful of states: Florida (where they were born); Colorado, Massachusetts and New Hampshire (where our families are); Georgia (where we recently visited friends); and Honeybun has been to Oklahoma.
Hubby and I have been big Oklahoma State fans since we lived in Oklahoma before getting married and starting our family while hubby earned his Master’s degree and I worked at OSU’s child development center.
We moved to Florida just before we got married and have only been back twice. The first time was to sell the house I owned there and the second was when Honeybun was 15 months old and we went back to attend an OSU football game.
While most if our short visit was spent visiting with friends and our old favorite places, we did have a little time to “play”.
We stayed in Oklahoma City and the day we drove up to Stillwater for the game was a busy one. We watched the parade as the players marched to the field. We got to meet the mascot, Pistol Pete, and pose for pictures with his horse, Bullet. We also got to see the Heisman trophy and of course visited the campus bookstore and shops around before cheering on our team.
We visited a few of our favorite restaurants which we didn’t have too close by including Sonic, McAlister’s, Red Robin, a bunch of great barbecue and our favorite steak restaurant, Cattlemen’s Steakhouse located in the historic stockyards (and experience all it’s own!) where we used to get a nice Sunday steak special that included salad and bread for a super price.
We let Honeybun swim in the hotel pool in between hitting our favorite spots and we also took her to the Oklahoma Zoo (which i used to go to every year with the preschool that I loved). The Zoo is small but I think really nice. There is a lot to see, playgrounds, animal statues all without being too overwhelming and we had a great time.
Our visit was way too short and it seems like we didn’t do much but it was so nice being back and I can’t wait to get back with the family and share even more of Oklahoma with my kids!
