Around this time in my pregnancy with Doodle, I confessed that I’ve never gotten the “nesting” instinct and shared all the things I still needed to do before his arrival including painting, shopping, organizing and pretty much everything else related to getting his room ready. Well, I got it all done in plenty of time for his arrival.
We have a habit of getting a new house every time we have a new baby and so I am stuck setting up a brand new nursery with every baby. But for the first time in four babies, I won’t have the nursery ready before baby comes.
Our new house is perfect for our future family with 5 bedrooms upstairs including the master and one for each child. So it’s not that we don’t have the space for the baby.
Well, actually that’s exactly what it is. This is what we have designated as the baby’s room:
Also currently known as “all the junk that has no home,” because when we moved we decided to abolish the playroom and are now stuck with a crap-ton of toys that have no place to live and while I tried really, really, REALLY hard to keep things nicely organized through the move, it just didn’t end up happening and baby’s room got stuck with being the area of containment. And even though I’ve spent hours in there trying to organize things, I have three tiny tornadoes that follow me around and make that nearly impossible!
But it’s okay, for the first time I’m not obsessed with baby’s room being ready before baby arrives because this is baby #4 and I know that baby is going to be in our room for quite a while (Honeybun was not quite 3 months and Sugarplum and Doodle were both around 4 months) and so this is going to baby’s nook starting out:
Our new master bedroom is the biggest we’ve ever had with a glorious sitting area which will be the perfect early nursery for baby. So no need to obsess over having his/her room ready because s/he won’t be ready for it either!
But I do still have a list of things to do in preparation including:
- Getting the crib from my parents house and putting it back together
- Finding all the newborn clothes that I *hope* are still at my parents house
- Washing, organizing and putting away all the clothes, blankets, rags, etc., etc., etc.
- Getting car seat arranged in my car so everyone can ride safely (hubby’s car is ready for any 3 which is the best we can do in a sedan!)
- Washing breast pump and bottles (in anticipation of an oversupply again)
- Buying diapers and prepping diaper changing stations
- Getting things put away enough around the house to actually have a baby!
