When I was pregnant with Sugarplum, I had another friend pregnant with her second as well. Her eldest is now in middle school but I vividly remember my dear friend’s profile picture from that time of her full belly painted with love by her older daughter. It was an idea I have always loved but did not take advantage of trying myself, until last night.
In anticipation of this little one’s (hopefully!) impending arrival, I bared my ever growing belly, armed my children with paintbrushes and opened up the paint jars for a little family belly painting. And the following minutes were some I will never forget as our family came together to literally surround this tiny little person with love and art.

That’s funny! It is a good way for the kids to connect with it before it’s born. Sorry for saying it. I’m not sure if you had a boy or girl.
Thanks, Lisa! “It” is a harsh term for sure but we’ve always used it for our belly babies, too, and now I’m trying to break the kids from the habit of calling their brother “it” now that he’s here and we know!
Love this idea! Such a fun, memorable bonding time. Not pregnant, but if I ever do get pregnant – definitely want to do this! :)
Thanks, Heather. It was so much fun and a great way to pre-welcome baby and start our transition in to the next phase. It’s something we will all remember!
