It’s Christmas Time in South Florida

I have this thing with rewriting songs. Last year I did a parenting re-mix of Jingle Bells and as Honeybun wrapped up kindergarten, my own version of In Summer from Frozen.
This year, as Christmas fast approaches, I’m having a hard time getting in the spirit of the holiday. I’ve noticed a shift in how I feel about the holidays but the 80+ degree weather is making it unusually hard to get into the feeling of Christmastime.
Silver bells, beach sea shells
It’s Christmas time in South Florida.
Ring-a-ling, the sunshine stings,
It sure doesn’t feel like Christmas time.
Too many street lights for this suburbanite,
Watching everyone rush around
In the air there’s only humidity.
My children laugh as people pass
But not a friendly face can be found.
And in every shop and store you hear
People complaining, my cheer is waning
It’s Christmas time in South Florida.
Ring-a-ling,
Hear’s the thing:
Soon it will be Christmas day.
I’d rather stay home than hear people groan,
I want to enjoy this time
As everyone obsesses over presents.
There’s no snow here, not even chilly air,
This is nothing like Christmas.
And looking around you see
Beach sea shells,
Tropical smells
It’s Christmas time in South Florida.
Ring-a-ling, the sunshine stings,
Soon it will be Christmas day.
