It is very rare these days that I can take a recipe and prepare it as it. With the size of our family, it’s more than likely that I’ll need to double, or even triple, a recipe before I start cooking or baking. And when my kids are in the kitchen cooking with me, I always have them do the math to adjust the recipes.
But it’s not always kind to my patience to sit around while they try to figure out each ingredient as we go, so I created a worksheet to help them with adjusting recipes where they can list each ingredient and either increase or decrease the measurements before we even get started (and then we keep them in the recipe book for next time!)
The worksheet for adjusting recipes is a great, real life way for my homeschoolers to practice their multiplying and dividing and helps them to get more comfortable with common fractions (which has been my eldest, Honeybun’s, nemesis for many years of math now.) Occasionally I have to get out a whiteboard and help them visualize their fractions but the adjusting recipes worksheet is working and they get a little faster each time.
