Another Saturday passed, another ballet class done. Though I can’t call it successful (felt like I was going to pass out the last half and had to sit down for jumps for fear of ending up on the floor anyways), I did have a few interesting realizations and firsts:
1) My leotards (the largest ones I own) no longer accommodate my baby belly and baby breasts (even the tiny little backbends I’m capable of right now posed a flashing hazard…) and my wrap skirt I wear will not fully wrap my belly much longer. Guess I will have to rethink my dancing wardrobe when I return to the studio in 2 weeks.
2) At 27 weeks and what I think is pretty obviously pregnant, apparently I don’t look so? Or people are too polite/shy to ask? I wear what has been my standard class attire since highschool: leotard, tights over and wrap skirt. Not much is left to the imagination and there is NO hiding anything. I’ve been dancing with the same core group since July and one had a baby in September so it’s not like the group is unfamiliar with me or babies, just weird that it’s not come up. Even the teacher hasn’t asked.
3) I felt the baby move for the first time while dancing. I quit dancing with my two girls before I felt them move and this baby has remained calm during previous classes. It was an odd experience. Trying to balance while having a little being sloshing around in your belly proved to be tricky. It also does not help that this baby is a wild swimmer, sometimes I think s/he is doing laps in there, and often moves so violently it makes me yelp.
4) Baby hates adagio as much as I do: while doing everything in my power to keep my eyes focused and not fall on my face/butt/anywhere while extremely dizzy, little baby was flopping around like crazy as if to say “Mommy, knock it off. You’re squishing me, this sucks!”
Next week we’ll be out of town so I have 2 weeks to figure out how I’m going to dress for class so that all my parts (belly included) stay covered. Hmmmm….
My attempt at a “dancey” shot during my maternity shoot with Honeybun (about 37 1/2 weeks along). My complete lack of ability to stand up combined with a photographer who has probably never seen a ballet before left my dreams crushed. Maybe when I go for pictures this time I’ll be able to get something better!
I have decided that we should start a line called Maternatards LOL. I’m thinking a ruched panel that can grow with belly and more generous butt space and something to hold the milk makers in!!!! I took class in a formal setting recently and discovered that those girls need help!!! (Going from AA to D cup with babies) I have ZERO experience with managing breasts and now I need a better solution that 2 sports bras under a leo and still WAY too much bouncing. It seems I’ll be sticking to the standby yoga pants and black long sleeves til we get this show on the road :)
My last few months of my pregnancy I started wearing an extra long maternity shirt, sports bra and yoga pants/leggings with long belly panel. It worked but a REAL leotard would be awesome! And yes, the boobs are a big issue (still!)
I wore a Leotard & Tights throughout my first pregnancy and now way into my second pregnancy to Ballet Class. & My 1st Preg Belly Was Double The Size Of Yours.
