Doodle will be 1 in three weeks (I’d rather not talk about it…) and to most everyone’s surprise, including mine, we are still swaddling him at nap and bedtime. While we don’t do the supertight newborn swaddle anymore, we do still wrap him up.
It has become part of his routine and signals to him that it’s time to sleep (in addition to his lights and sounds machine). Now I wrap him however he lays when I put him down. Usually this is with his right arm flailed up by his head and his left across his chest. Though, sometimes if he is really unruly, I’ll wrap both arms across his chest so he feels secured but can easily get them out.
I don’t know when we’ll officially stop because for now it’s working. Sometimes he giggles in delight when I lay out the blanket before I lay him down and he’ll even make a dive for the bed when I catch him at the right amount of tired. Even in the middle of the night, hubby can go in wrap him up, turn on the “fishies” and he will go back to sleep. Why mess with what works? (And yes, I do break the SIDS rules and he sleeps with a tiny stuffed animal and burp rag which is his “lovey”)
