Baby Names from Ballets

I swear, this whole baby naming thing gets harder and harder every time. Since we’ve never found out the gender of our babies before they were in our arms, we’ve always had to narrow it down to both a boy’s and a girl’s name.

With Honeybun, the girl’s name came easy, I had been dreaming of it for months and threw it out after a night out when hubby might have had too much to drink and he went right along with it.  And we had settled comfortably on a boy’s name, until we were driving to the hospital for my induction and hubby said “what were our names, again?”  When I told him he quietly said “oh, my boss’s son is named that, too.”  “Well, we better hope it’s a girl then!”  And obviously she was.

Sugarplum took a lot more discussing for both.  Since we couldn’t re-use the boy’s name we threw out for Honeybun, we were back at square one.  But we figured it out, a boy’s and a girl’s name we loved.  Obviously we used the girl’s name and with an adjusted middle name, we had what became Doodle’s name, too, though settling on a girl’s name was a bit harder with him (I even explored all the glorious names on my family tree which my sister and I were working on obsessively at the time).

So now, baby #4 and it seems all the good names are gone and here we are, full term, and we’ve got nothin’!  We briefly discussed it during a kid-free outing a few weeks ago but didn’t get anywhere and have been e-mailing back and forth about it (sad, but that’s sometimes the only way we can communicate without being interrupted and/or when we aren’t too tired to have a civil conversation!)

I’ve scrounged the internet baby naming sites, putting in my criteria (I have themes I like to keep) and am feeling empty handed and empty hearted.  There are sooooo many names out there, but all the ones I like I can quickly rule out because they are too close to one of the other kids’ or because I know someone else with the name or I like it but it’s just not right.

So I decided to try something new: look to what I love.  Maybe I can find some inspiration in the stories that created my first love and maybe it would provide me with the perfect fit for my current love!  Maybe there are some beautiful names from ballets we could use.

After looking through the most famous ballets as well as some of my personal favorites, here’s what it got me:

I can’t say it helped us any more in our baby naming journey, but it was fun to look at all the names anyways!
